GEAR OIL- CRUSHER - DIFFERENTIAL - AXLE HUB OIL FILTRATION

Industrial gearbox fluids are not filtered on-board and are changed on a time interval per maintenance schedules. An effective maintenance and monitoring plan will help keeping these oils clean and changed based on oil condition and remaining additive package.

Gear teath surfaces run under heavy load resulting in high frictin forces. The silica and wear metal particles get ground between teeth and as a result the contamination particles sizes are very very fine

The bearings are also vulnerable to ultra fine dirt particles.

Oil cleanliness is of utmost importance as contamination (metal and sand particles) in oil will cause cause and accelerate wear. Wear produces particles and particles aggrevate wear. This will result in increase in viscosity and temperature. Overheat is an oil killer.

Contamination causes

- wear in gears and bearings

- wear is regenerative (wear pushes up wear)

- oil is more viscous, resists to flow which cause it to keep the heat resulting in depletion of additives.

Gear oils are more vulnerable to environmental conditions. Left: Jaw crusher oil Right: Same oil filtered by 2 micron elements. See movie>>>

As gear oils are of high viscosity, a preheating may be necessary to make the oil flow easily through the filters.

Mine Trucks And Construction Machines:

Larger dirt particles (wear metal and silica) stay in suspension in oil as the viscosity is considerably high for these particles to settle. Geras will churn the oil and these particles are ground between teeth.

Oil with these heavy particles will act like a sand-paper between gear teeth surfaces and accelerate the wear process. Therefore it is very important to eliminate dirt particles (especially ferrous) travelling with the oil in the system, hence the necessity of finer filtration.

Ger oils have no on-board cleaning means. These machines work in very harsh environment conditions, they are subject to dust and humidity. A maintenance program to periyodically filter the oil will reduce wear and protect equipment from wear.
